When I was in high school there was no school library, as a matter of fact there was no town library either–albeit I lived in an extremely rural area, and this typically isn’t the norm. However I was only able to learn from my racist/classist/sexist/etc. school books, teachers, siblings, foster siblings, and foster parents–much like every other student I went to school with. High school kids often live with their families and are pressured to think as they do, they are pressured to think the way their neighbourhood thinks. This tends to create a boxed up little world of the same ideas.
The majority of high school libraries have banned books, inadequate information storage, etc. As well as blocked websites. We’re also assuming that every high schooler knows exactly how to find what they’re looking for online–and knows exactly how/where to find new ideas–and has the time to do so. When I was in high school I had two jobs–both manual farm labor shit: time consuming, and I had never seen an actual computer up close. Again I am a minority in this, but I’ve tutored in enough high schools to know that most high schoolers don’t fucking know how to find what they’re looking for online. They especially don’t know how to find shit they aren’t looking for or don’t even know about: critical race theory, stuff on classism, feminist articles, shit like that.
"but can’t you say the same thing about college students." No. The people I quote on this blog, the rich college kids, definitely know how to find this shit–because not only do they know it exists, but they already know the basic ideas of them: still they reject them. Again I can say this because I, and the other mods, know every single one of them from the original content.
Universities actually have libraries, universities [usually] have student access to computers, universities [usually] have a plethora of different ideas thrown all around. Universities give many the ability to come up with their own opinions, or give light to new ideas they’ve never thought of. So in the knowledge aspect alone, and the ability to acquire new knowledge, universities are absolutely superior to [MOST] high schools. Which is to say only having a high school knowledge absolutely exempts high schoolers from having limited, to poor, knowledge of how the world works i.e. exempts their ignorance with regards to sheer knowledge.
Now with your magical prodigy 12-year-old bullshit, I can pull out anomalies too–doesn’t mean I’m going to base my whole opinion surround the anomalies I pull out of my ass.
Age definitely excuses ignorance to an extent: children often have a difficult time comprehending shit that takes college students time to comprehend: I WONDER WHY?
I mean there’s a fucking reason why minors go to juvi instead of jail: because they aren’t fucking adults. Are you going to say that we should punish children as equally as we should punish adults. I should mock little kids who don’t know any better instead of point out oppressive quotes from people who I know to know better. The racist shit in our original content is said by people who have taken classes on critical race theory, have had gender studies courses, have had all this shit, and still they reject facts known to them in favor of their privilege.
So what am I trying to say: This blog is about people who know better yet do as they please and say what they want, that’s the entire point of the blog. A blog about little kids saying oppressive shit, because it’s all they’ve ever known and all they’ve ever heard about … is not a good blog. That’s exploitative.
I can get really shitty quotes from some of the high school kids I’ve tutored that don’t know anything about racism, or classism, or sexism, and often are saying oppressive shit about themselves–should I use that in my blog. Should I act like that holds the same weight as privileged universities students educated on issues they don’t care about, because it doesn’t affect them?
